In May 2025, in the gentle hills of Jos, Plateau State, I had the rare privilege of sitting with a living psalmist—Dr. Panam Percy Paul, born Bakulipanam Percy Paul Mokungah. To meet him is to encounter a quiet storm of grace: a maestro whose melodies have travelled farther than roads, and whose songs have become altars in the hearts of worshippers. His musical pilgrimage began at the tender age of twenty while he was still an undergraduate at Kaduna Polytechnic. Even then, destiny tuned his fingers and tempered his voice. At Radio ELWA Christian Communications, where he served as production supervisor and engineer, he mastered not only sound but silence—learning how to weave spirit into song, and reverence into rhythm. Panam Percy Paul’s praise and worship rise like incense yet move like dance. With the warm pulse of African highlife flowing through sacred lyrics, his music invites both feet and soul to respond. For decades, his voice has carried consolation, revival, and joy to multitudes across nations. Though born in Numan, Adamawa State, he has long made Jos his home—a city that echoes with his harmonies. There, he founded Panam College of Music Ministry, nurturing new generations in music performance, sound engineering, and music management. And who can speak of him without recalling the immortal “Bring Down The Glory” series? In those songs, heaven seems nearer. In his humility, greatness bows. In his life, music becomes ministry—and ministry, a living song.

A chance meeting at the 2025 Gospel Film and Video Directors Guild International in Jos gave Kolawole Olaiya of Nollywood in Review, the opportunity to meet with this legendary gospel musician. Dr. Panam Percy Paul. He kindly gave permission to Kolawole and his crew to visit him for a conversation in his welcoming home. Uploaded below is my discussion with him on various topics that would be of interest to music students film lovers, students, researchers, and Nollywood scholars alike.
